Lecture Series: Dinner with Master Beekeeper Kathy Balestrier

The Herb Lyceum’s May Speaker’s series brings delicious, floral menu offerings together with food for the mind, harkening back to the United States’ historical Lyceum movement or even to Aristotle’s own Lyceum.

Aristotle created The Lyceum, or Academy, to promote learning in Athens. Here in Groton, Massachusetts a couple of millenia later, we invite speakers for our Spring Wednesdays to share their knowledge and enjoy a meal in our dinner-party style seating format. Each cmonthly menu is unique and includes our chef de cuisine's spin on the theme.

On May 17th, please join us and master beekeeper Kathy Balestrier of The Colony (Tyngsboro, MA) for a deep dive dedicated to our most iconic pollinators, from egg to hive to honeycomb. The menu will feature Carlisle honey, as well as mead, produced at the Colony’s amazing local facility.

Here at The Herb Lyceum, we serve a prix fixe tasting menu without choices. We understand that’s not for everyone. We do try to provide alternative options for courses that may not appeal to all diners, but because the menu is limited, we aren’t able to offer a wide variety of choices. Your ticket includes service costs (gratuity may be left on beverage orders). Eventbrite fees and tax will be added at the time of purchase. A Garden & Wild Edibles Dinner at the Farm

6:00 PM18:00

A Garden & Wild Edibles Dinner at the Farm

The Herb Lyceum’s April Speaker’s series brings delicious, twice-monthly menu offerings together with food for the mind, harkening back to the United States’ historical Lyceum

On April 12th, please join us and David Jacke, author and ecological landscape designer, for:

Gardening Like the Forest: An Introduction to Edible Forest Gardening:

Healthy forests maintain, fertilize, and renew themselves, naturally. Modern landscapes and conventional agriculture embody a culture of separation that disrupts ecosystems, destroys habitats, and ultimately damages our own well-being. Nature has much to teach us! We can mimic healthy forest structure and function in our landscapes and grow food, fuel, fiber, fodder, fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, and fun! We can meet our own needs while regenerating healthy ecosystems for ourselves, and for our human and non-human neighbors. In this talk we’ll articulate the vision, relay some science, share a few examples, and present a sampling of perennial edibles you can grow.

While this menu will be served for one night only, like many of our menus this Spring it will feature mushrooms from our friends at Fat Moon Farms in Westford, Massachusetts.

Here in Groton, Massachusetts a couple of millenia later, we invite speakers for our April Wednesdays to share their knowledge and enjoy a meal in our dinner party style seating format. Each weekly menu and topic is unique from week to week.

On April 5th, please join us and mycologist Lawrence Millman, adventurer and author, for a one-time menu featuring mushrooms from our friends Fat Moon Mushrooms, hailing from Littleton.

Here at The Herb Lyceum, we serve a prix fixe tasting menu without choices. We understand that’s not for everyone, but for those brave enough to come along with us on our culinary journey, we promise you will enjoy the ride. We do try to provide alternative options for courses for guests with dietary restrictions or strong aversions, but because the menu is limited, we aren’t able to offer a wide variety of substitutions. If you prefer to have more control over your dining experience, we are happy to suggest some of our favorite places to eat in the area.

Your ticket includes table service (gratuity may be left on beverage orders). Eventbrite fees and tax will be added at the time of purchase. As of August 1st, 2021 we have our liquor license, and are no longer BYOB. We have a well-curated menu of house beverages, including wine, beer and non-alcoholic beverages available for purchase on premises to enjoy with your dinner.

Tickets sold are for one seating starting at 6pm.

Due to the small, cozy nature of our carriage house, our dinner guests will be seated family style at long tables. Private tables during the colder months are not available.

If you are coming in a group and will not be able to purchase tickets together, please send along their names so we can seat you all together if possible.

If you have any allergies or dietary restrictions, please email Ryanq@puritancambridge.com at least 24 hours ahead of time to allow us to prepare any accommodations or amendments to the menu.

As these events are planned and prepared for many days out , we require at least 24 hours notice on all cancellations. Tickets are non refundable due to weather or other circumstances unless we are able to fill your seat with a waitlisted individual. Tickets are transferable.

April Cooking Class: Vegetarian

As we start to expand our classes here at the lyceum during the winter we are excited to release the next in the series: Vegetarian! This sometimes misunderstood styles of cooking is our absolute favorite here at the farm. We will dive deep into the basics and teach you lots of new techniques and preparations to get the most out of your vegetables by creating wholesome unique dishes at home. From sides to making vegetables the star of the show (and dessert), this class will be a great peek into getting the most out of every harvest.

Classes will start with demonstrations, and then lead into group instruction as you practice your new skills in real time. For our vegan cooking class, we will jump right into preparing 5 different vegan dishes, each that will highlight a different technique that can be adapted to add many new dishes to your home repertoire. Light snacks and beverages will be served throughout the class which will conclude with communal lunch featuring the final composed dishes we made in the class.

Space is limited to 12 guests. Due to the intimate size and limited time, we will be unable to accommodate any deviations from the planned menu.
